Venue of the conference The conference will take place in the "GeoVita" conference house. We are prepared to accommodate up to 140 participants. Participants will be accommodated in two hotels "GeoVita" and "Antalówka". Distance between the hotels is about 200 meters. The addresses of the hotels are:
The location of the "GeoVita" and "Antalówka" hotels and the railway and bus station in Zakopane is shown on the map below. Show large map Zakopane, beautifully situated at the foot of the Tatra mountains, offers a wide choice of free time activities. Early September weather in Zakopane is usually sunny and mild, inviting outdoor recreation. Typical daytime temperatures are between 15 and 20 deg. C (60-70 F). Be sure to bring sturdy walking boots and clothing suitable for excursions and strolls. Short hiking trips into the Tatra Mountains National Park will be organized every afternoon. For those who enjoy swimming, the Aqua Park Zakopane complex housing indoor and outdoor geotermal pools, is situated just beside the conference hotels. During your visit to Zakopane you will also have a unique chance to become acquainted with the folklore of the mountaineers.
Travelling to Zakopane The nearest international airport is located in Kraków (KRK) at a distance of about 110 km from Zakopane. It is served by several mainline airlines (Lufthansa, LOT, British Airways, Austrian Airlines) as well as a number of low-cost carriers (EasyJet, Ryanair and others). The distance from the airport to the center of Kraków is about 12 km. A shuttle train (running every 30 minutes) connects the airport (Kraków-Balice) to the main railway station (Kraków Glówny) in the center of the city. The conference bus On the first day of the conference, September 1, we will provide bus transportation from Kraków to Zakopane. The conference bus will leave from:
• Plac Matejki in the center of Kraków at 14:00 (2 p.m.), A return bus transfer from Zakopane to Kraków will be arranged on September 7, the last day of the conference. Buses will depart from Zakopane at 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. The departure from Zakopane will be timed to allow transfer to the ENAM 2008 Conference. You may also reach Zakopane by car. It takes up to 2 hours driving time to cover the 110 km distance between Kraków and Zakopane. There are frequent Kraków to Zakopane bus connections every hour. If you decide to travel to Zakopane via Warsaw we recommend that you take one of the Inter City trains to Kraków (running every hour) or the direct Warsaw - Zakopane train (once per day).
We encourage you to arrive to Kraków one or two days before the conference, or stop in Kraków after the meeting, to visit this historical city. Please follow this link for information about staying in Kraków.
Other practical information Polish currency is called "zloty". Exchange rates are approximately 1 Euro to 3.2 Zloty, $1 to 2 Zloty. Currencies can be exchanges for zloty at banks and exchange offices. ATM (bankomat) machines are available in all cities for cash withdrawal. Credit cards (Visa and Mastercard) are accepted by most hotels, restaurants and merchants. Some typical prices: hotel in Kraków 150-500 zloty per night, regular bus fare Kraków to Zakopane 12-15 zloty, a 2 course meal at a restaurant 50-80 zloty, beer 6-8 zloty.
